Lena West Response

Hello and welcome back to my IMM blog.

Today I will be discussing what I thought of my IMM class's Skype chat with Lena West. I originally thought that people were hired for jobs based on how qualified they were for the position they were applying for. Nowadays this is the case, but there are other factors involved as well. She helped me realize how harmful social media sites such as MySpace, Facebook and even blogs can be when applying for a job. For example, lets say I post a picture on Facebook of myself acting a little crazy during a frat party. If a the company that I was trying to apply for a job at were to see this picture, there is a chance that I would not be hired because of my behavior outside of the workplace.

It was interesting hearing about how her company began and how she got where she is today. The company started out as a web design company but now her company goes to other businesses and helps them use social networking sites in their company. I had no idea how much more cost efficient it is for a company to hire someone to come and teach employees about something than to train them in house. Overall this was a very interesting Skype Chat.
